Strand Chambers was the first chambers in London to specialise in accepting instructions via the direct public access scheme (also referred to as public access or direct access), after it was introduced in 2004.
At Strand Chambers we aim to provide a reliable, no nonsense service to people who need to access specialist legal services and who do not want to instruct a solicitor. Today over 80 per cent of our instructions are received via the direct access scheme.
How to engage our barristers
You can instruct one of our barristers in two different ways.
The first is by meeting with one of our barristers to discuss your case and receive expert legal advice in a 60 minute conference.
How it works:
Here at Strand Chambers we recognise the benefits of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and that some disputes are best resolved outside court. ADR allows parties to settle their disputes out of court in the knowledge that those settlements can also be legally binding.

Strand Chambers has a group of barristers who can negotiate, mediate or arbitrate cases across a range of specialist areas.
Strand Chambers was the first chambers in London to specialise in direct public access, allowing clients to take advantage of the benefits of going straight to a barrister for legal services without the need to instruct solicitors. We also take instruction from solicitors – including at short notice. All of our clients benefit from our rapid response and no-nonsense approach.
At Strand Chambers we adopt a practical, transparent handling of each case, ensuring our clients remain fully informed of the progress of their case and the costs arising at each stage. We quote fixed-fees in advance for our services on a no-obligation basis, allowing our clients to stay in control. We offer one-to-one conferences with our experienced barristers, for prices starting at £280.
Our barristers have experience in a wide range of practice areas including family, property, employment, regulatory, immigration, crime and wills and probate and can provide advice and representation on all aspects of your case. Our barristers can appear in any court, tribunal or disciplinary hearing in England and Wales, right up to and including the Supreme Court. We also have on-going cases in the European Court of Human Rights.
If you have any questions or would like further information about how we can help you, contact Mike Watts, the director of chambers, on 0207 117 6920 or email info@strandchambers.com.
Sharin Diegan commenced her second six on 18 October 2017 and is now accepting instructions.
During her first sixth, Sharin trained under the supervision of our head of chambers, David Mendes da Costa. She has gained valuable experience in family law, with emphasis on child contact, financial disputes and emergency remedies for domestic violence. She has also worked on cases involving housing, TOLATA, defamation and general civil law issues.
